| it is as you stated.. a gentlemens agreement, which most likely took place, via word of mouth between all of the heads of the japaneese vehicle manufacturers. and just to add, youll have to understand that a verbal agreement is traditionally honored much moreso over in japan than it is here in the states regardless if money is to be made
